Many Indian-Americans are doing superbly these days and one such is Pramila Jayapal. It is now said that she is the first Indian-American women elected to Congress. Incredible isn’t it!!

It is superb to note that this Pramila Jayapal aged 52 from Columbia City in Washington USA was praised by many after she won the Washington’s 7th Congressional district by 14 seats over a person named Brady Walkinshaw. As a result of this Pramila Jayapal became the first woman elected to Congress and it is now confirmed that she is also the first coloured person elected to Washington State Democratic Delegation.

It must be noted that this Walkinshaw after the defeat dealt with the loss easily. Pramila Jayapal expressed her delight after winning and said she was happy and she also thanked everybody who helped her and her party to win the elections.

It is interesting to note that she was born in Chennai in India in 1965 and was brought up in Singapore and Indonesia. It was in 1982 she reached USA and at that time she was just 16 years of age. It is important to note that she gave acceptance speech and in that speech she touched upon many things like districts needs to do to improve plus also on the election of the president etc.

It was in the year 1991 this Pramila Jayapal settled in Seattle in USA and worked for PATH which is a public health non profit organisation. Another superb work she did was to increase the minimum wages to $ 15 per hour and later played crucial role in issuing protections against gun violence. Superb Pramila Jayapal!!
